The names of the majority of the heroes of this book are N. I. Galdich, S. N. Marina, Prince P. I. Shalikova, S. N. Glinka - almost unknown to the modern reader, although they once were very popular poetmen. We know very little about the military service of such famous poets, like V. A. Zhukovsky, Prince P. A. Vyazemsky, K. N. Batyushkov ... Meanwhile, their creativity, as well as participation both in literary and public life and In combat actions - largely contributed to the transformation of the Patriotic War of 1812 into one of the most romantic eras of the Russian history, which remained in the memory of the descendants" time of glory and delight.
