General reference materials are given: the basic concepts and elements of cutting, the geometry of the lathe, the cutting tool used on turning machines, the scope of instrumental materials, the classification of metalworking machines, the device and cinematics of turning machines with manual control and CNC. Attention is paid to the kinematic setting and commissioning of the lattice of a lathe. Information about the turning machine modules of the vertical layout is given.
