The Battle of Kosovo is a tragic and fateful event in the history of the Serbian people. Is there another nation on earth, in whose historical life defeat and death would be considered a spiritual victory, living and acting through the centuries?! According to Saint Bishop Nikolai (Velimirović): "It was Kosovo that made the Serbs a great nation. It is our national Golgotha, but at the same time our national resurrection, spiritual and moral." Bishop Nikolai addressed the topic of Kosovo many times throughout his life in sermons and various publications, speaking about Serbian history and the Serbian people. This is reflected in the words of Saint Nikolai of Serbia in his work "The Emperor's Testament," in which he relives what happened to Saint Prince Lazar several centuries ago, as if it happened yesterday.
