Ilyinskoye and Usovo rightfully occupy an outstanding place in the heritage of Russian manor culture. But only now we begin to document the appearance of these ancient estates, step by step, revealing their unique historical and cultural significance. For the first time, the problem of studying a single ensemble of two estates, for 1865-1905 served as the residence and a place of rest of the royal family: Alexander II and Empress Maria Alexandrovna, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fedorovna, is raised. The world of the estate is revealed, in which the architecture, the beauty of the natural landscape, the artistic organization of space, the everyday and event life of the owners are inseparable.
A brief exposition of Ilyinsky and Usov XVII - the middle of the XIX century in the system of settlement from Zvenigorod to Moscow precedes the book. The imperial residence appears as a solution to the pragmatic requirements of the arrangement of the life of the monarch of the family and the court, and at the same time a reflection of the worldview of the era of historicism, commitment to the style of national romanticism. Hence the general features of the architecture of the royal estates of Ilyinskoye in the suburbs and Livadia in the Crimea. The Grand Duke Ilyinskoye and Usovo are seen as the unity of life -building and artistic principles, obeyed by the laws of the development of art from historicism to modern. Against the background of the estate, inner life, personal qualities of heroes appear in time. The image of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fedorovna accompanies the estate, starting from the moment of her arrival by the young mistress and the atmosphere of cloudless happiness in Ilyinsky to the death of her husband and the decision to abandon the charm of the beauty of the property world, which meant farewell to Ilyinsky. The epilogue is dedicated to the new Spaso-Usovsky Temple of 2010 and the phenomenon of the return of the tradition of the Elisavetinsky procession
