This book was written by one of the participants in the first Russian expedition to the North Pole under the command of G. Ya. Sedov, held in 1912-1914,-Nikolai Vasilyevich Pinegin (1883-1940) N.V. Pinegin - artist, writer, scientist. Thanks to his literary talent, we can get acquainted in the most detailed way with the course of this heroic and tragic campaign. The book also presents photographs taken by N.V. Pinegin directly while traveling to polar latitudes. The publication also includes an essay "70 days of struggle for life " - the history of the transition of V. I. Albanov and his satellites on the drifting ice of the Arctic. Albanov was a navigator on the Saint Anna ship, on which the expedition under the command of G. L. Brusilov wanted to go along the Northern Sea Route. When the ship turned out to be clamped with ice, Albanov and another 10 crew members tried to reach the inhabited land. As a result, when the travelers reached the Saint Foca ship, on which N.V. Pinegin was also located, only two remained alive - Albanov and the sailor of Conrad. As an appendix in the book, the biography of Georgy Sedov, the expedition commander to the North Pole, who tragically died in the ice of the Arctic, was placed in the book
