The book of Andrew Walder talks about the take -off and fall of the Maoist revolutionary state from 1949 to 1976 - about the era of amazing achievements and catastrophic failures.
In China, the Mao says, Walder claims, the institutions created during the first decade of the board of the Communist Party played an important role: a party apparatus that carried out tight control over its personnel, and a socialist economy built on the model of the Soviet Union. Although supervision of this authoritarian system was carried out by the national bureaucracy, Mao resolutely intervened in it at every step.
Prescribing as a cure for the alleged capitalist restoration the continuation of the class struggle against imaginary enemies, Mao destroyed much of what he built, and eventually did not give the destroyed any viable alternative.
