Released by the 250th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding navigator Ivan Fedorovich Kruzenshtern and for the 175th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society, at the origins of which Kruzenshtern stood, this book presents the reader the scale of scientific, research and picturesque and picturesque work done by participants in the first Russian round-the-world voyage. Atlas of the first round -the -world trip is the largest edition of Russian engraving at the beginning of the 19th century and is still one of the valuable iconographic sources in the field of ethnography.
Kruzenshtern personally was engaged in the publication of the original atlas. Published specimens located in Russian and foreign meetings have a different number of engravings, their sequence, numbering and signatures. In the presented publication, all available color images (and this is a rarity), are determined in the reference order, descriptions of each illustration are given, the creators of drawings and engravings for many existing atlases and concomitant literature are clarified.
In the Atlas, scientists identified the names of the flora and fauna depicted by Tillesius in accordance with the currently accepted scientific systematization.
The book contains, in addition to the Atlas itself, a large amount of additional material: articles about I.F. Kruzenschenster and the first Russian round -the -world swimming, about the cartographic heritage of the expedition and the atlas itself, its foreign publications and the history of creation.
Cruzenshtern atlas was released in a gift, in 2 languages, Russian and English
