Trapped in Ice. The story of the largest international expedition to the North Pole by ship.

For the first time in Russian, a book about the largest expedition to the North Pole of all time! On September 20, 2019, under the leadership of scientific researcher Markus Rex, the MOSAiC expedition was launched, which became the largest in history. Researchers from 20 countries took part in it. Their goal was to understand how the climate of our planet is changing, as it is most noticeable through the Arctic ice. The flagship vessel of the expedition was the German icebreaker 'Polarstern'. Russian scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) and Russian vessels 'Akademik Treshnikov', 'Akademik Fedorov', and 'Captain Dranitsyn' also participated in the research. For a whole year, 'Polarstern' drifted with the ice, and the expedition route almost completely retraced the path of the famous Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen on the ship 'Fram'. During their time away from civilization, participants faced many serious challenges: cracks in the ice, strong blizzards, bone-chilling cold, pitch-black darkness, polar bears... All of this did not prevent scientists from shedding light on the global climate change process.
