Ana Maria Matute is a Spanish writer. In 1976, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. After the publication of the novel 'Forgotten King Gudu' in 1996, she was elected as a member of the Spanish Royal Academy - the third woman in the academy's 300-year history. In 2010, she received the Cervantes Prize. And now Spanish writers can receive an award in her name.
"Emotional movement always becomes a feat or betrayal."
The novel is about the formation of characters, about how actions taken in childhood determine destiny, about the responsibility of all - both tyrants and their silent, tyranny-enduring victims.
"We all want to survive... (although it would be better to die a meaningless death and leave behind a beautiful legend in people's memories...) But we want to live, firmly take on the noble and foolish pose of a virtuous victim, the triumphant executioners, we want to continue our existence... covering the bark of the world with men-women-victims-executioners."
Matute has an amazing language - she writes succinctly, using magnificent metaphors. It is this unusual style of the novel 'Trap' that immerses and captivates with its depth of insight into the psychology of relationships. You begin to understand the nature of human actions, their internal contradictions.
You recall your childhood and adolescence. You evaluate yourself and your life. This is a book that makes you think, draw conclusions, evaluate and understand people's behavior.
