The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the town of Chephala is one of the greatest monuments of the era of the rule of Normannov in Sicily. It was founded in 1131 by the King Roger and, who wanted to make the cathedral with his family tomb. Like most other medieval European cathedrals, this grand building was built for many decades. It was mainly over in the middle of the XIII century. The harsh simplicity of the forms of the cathedral resembling the fortress walls and towers are characteristic of a romance style. However, many decorative elements are borrowed from Arabic tradition, which gives the Sicilian architecture a unique peculiarity. The Cefalu Cathedral was the greatest fame, which were made by the invited by the Norman kings of the Horn II and Wilhelm I Byzantine Masters from Constantinople. The huge image of Christ the Almighty in Apxida, as well as the images of the Virgin, Angels and the Apostles were performed about 1148 and belong to the number of the best works of the classical Byzantine art of the XII century
