Indian philosophy is an amazing phenomenon of continuous and progressive development of tradition. Having begun to take shape as early as the 16th century BC, over many centuries it has achieved incredible internal diversity. Some schools (darshanas) to some extent took into account the dogma of the ancient sacred texts (Vedas), while others rejected their authority, creating independent ideological systems. Thus, within Brahmanism, there arose a division between astika - followers of orthodoxy, and nastika - its deniers. This edition includes texts created by representatives of both currents of Indian philosophy - orthodox darshanas (Samkhya, Yoga, Vaisheshika, Vedanta, Tantra, and Vyakarana) and schools that broke with the Brahmanist tradition (Jainism and Buddhism). The book is intended for Orientalists, religious scholars, historians, and all those interested in the philosophical thought of Ancient India.
