The basis of the collection put in the first half of the XIX century Alexey Romanovich Tomilov. His collection is represented by the names of both foreign artists (Leonardo Bassano, Canaletto) and Russian masters, such as Alexey Egorov, Vladimir Borovikovsky, Alexander Varnak, Orest Kiprensky, Peter Zabolotsky, Alexander Orlovsky, Alexey Chernyshev, Vasily Zhukovsky and others who have become key to XIX century.
The book includes articles about the collection and collectors, the biography of artists and persons depicted on portraits, as well as color illustrations
