After an unsuccessful attempt to rescue Jan Smuga from the captivity of the Campa Indians, Tomek and his companions hastily prepare a new rescue expedition. Sacrificing his freedom and staying in the Indian settlement for the sake of his friends' escape, Smuga and Captain Novitsky promised the young man to meet him in a couple of months near the northern border of Bolivia. It seems, however, that fate itself is against their reunion: first, the Campa uprising in Montaña forced Wilmowski Jr. and the rest of the group members to abandon the short route, and then the map was confused by the revolution in Bolivia. To reach the agreed place as soon as possible, Tomek decides to lead the expedition through Gran Chaco — a mysterious region that has remained unexplored for a long time. According to legend, free Indian tribes live there, and misfortune awaits any white man who dares to intrude on their lands… But can Tomek retreat when the lives of his dear ones are at stake?

Before you is a new translation of the eighth novel in this series — "Tomek in Gran Chaco", which has been supplemented with interesting and informative scientific notes. The wonderful illustrations for the book were created by the artist Vladimir Kanivets.
