A tragedy struck the Karski family: Tomek's cousin was arrested and exiled to Siberia. To save him, Tomek, accompanied by Vilimovsky-senior and his loyal friends - boatswain Novitsky and hunter Jan Smuga - sets off to Russia. The young man owes a lot to the Karskis, who replaced his parents after the death of Tomek's mother and his father's escape abroad.
