Not long ago, Tomek was chasing bandits on the border with Manchuria and making his way through the Siberian taiga, and now he is visiting Australia. Learning about the arrival of the young man and his friends in the country, zoologist Karl Bentley, a long-time acquaintance of the Wilmowskis, invites them over and makes the travelers a very tempting offer — to organize an expedition to the deep regions of New Guinea with the aim of obtaining several birds of paradise. After discussing the possible difficulties of this venture, the company sets off on their journey in an updated composition. Tomek's dear heart, Sally, not wishing to let the young hunter go alone to the land of headhunters, also joins the expedition. In search of the birds of paradise, the travelers are forced to stop near local settlements. And if some natives are quite friendly and help the travelers in their cause, others are ready for any treachery, just to get rid of the foreigners forever...
The stories of the fearless Tomek Wilmowski, penned by Polish writer Alfred Szklarski, have raised more than one generation of young book lovers. Before you is the sixth novel from this series — "Tomek Among the Headhunters," the translation of which has been rechecked and supplemented with interesting and informative popular science notes. The wonderful illustrations for the book were created by the artist Vladimir Kanivets.
