Time passes, and what was considered a great state secret yesterday, ceases to be it. The secret becomes a common property and helps to understand the logic of both heroic and tragic events in the history of our Motherland. The Afghan epic, at first glance, is no longer a secret, forbidden topic that is better not to affect. But in none of the recently emerging publications there are no intelligible, unequivocal answer to the question: to whom are we owed the “Afghan”? Old Square hid her true goals in Afghanistan as soon as she could. Even making December 12, 1979, the decision to enter the troops, she did not dare to give an unambiguous explanation, in the name of which the Soviet army invades the territory of the state friendly to us. The reconstruction of the events of 1979 allows not only to trace from beginning to end the entire process of “ripening” of the final decision on the entry into Afghanistan “limited contingent of the Soviet troops”, but also to observe how the old square, Verkhovna, and before anyone, behaved.
