"My desire - above all" was the motto of Frank Algernon Cowperwood, the main character of the second book "The Titan" from the "Trilogy of Desire" by American writer Theodore Dreiser, published in 1912. The novel tells the story of the life of a talented financier in Philadelphia, who played a significant role in developing the public transportation system in Chicago and London. From the very beginning of the book, Dreiser shows how the financial and economic environment shapes the personality of the businessman and stock trader from childhood, for whom all means are good in achieving power and wealth. The book explores how personal life and business are not only closely intertwined but also influence each other. On one hand, there is Frank and his relationships with women, his love for painting and art, and his attempts to be accepted in high society, and on the other hand, there is his business.
