Sheena made her debut in the distant year of 1938 and became the first female superhero in comics, beating Wonder Woman by three years! She stands against anyone who dares to threaten the fragile world in the African jungles, with the help of a hunter named Bob. Sheena's early adventures were published under the pseudonym V. Morgan Thomas, which concealed the names of Will Eisner and S. M. Iger!
The character gained popularity with a successful TV series starring Irish McCalla. Since then, Sheena has been lucky with adaptations: a movie was released in '84, and a series in the 2000s was long broadcasted on Russian TV. Sheena's bright and memorable image spawned a host of imitators who formed a distinct genre (jungle girl): Shanna (MARVEL), Tanya (Fox Feature Syndicate), Taanda, the White Princess of the Jungle (Avon Periodicals), and Fantomah (Fiction House).
