Most often, math textbooks suggest teaching children to count just for the sake of counting. The authors vividly illustrate examples. The counting process is a monotonous and boring activity.
It is much more interesting if the idea of how and what to count comes to the child on their own. If they immediately come up with an easier way to count, find patterns in counting. And all these discoveries in mathematics are made practically independently by the child, we only create a developmental environment.
Tick-tack-toe games are an environment for developing mathematical abilities.
