Doctor Miron Ginkas (1921-1983) was a prisoner of the Kaunas ghetto for two years, escaped with his family, and hid for another year in the city occupied by the Nazis. Memories of this time he recorded primarily for children and grandchildren, understanding that a book about the Holocaust had no chance of being published in Soviet publishing houses. But essentially, all of us who are now living are the children and grandchildren of those who survived, and these memories are addressed to all of us. The publication of this book is in memory of those who faced death every day simply because they were 'designated' for death, for whom survival and the salvation of loved ones became an urgent goal. In memory of those who did not survive and were unable to tell their story. In memory of those who, risking their lives and freedom, helped, rescued, and sheltered. Those who, despite inhuman dangers, did not lose courage, dignity, sympathy, and love...
