The fantastic novel by Yuri Bykov from the “Pogatyans” series does not abound with bloody beatings and progressive lines. Its main advantage can be called a melodic, light and competent Russian language, a “delicious” literary syllable and a fascinating romantic plot. The fate of the heroes of the beginning of the 20th century are tightly intertwined with the heroes of our days and the last days of Jesus in Jerusalem. The subtle irony of the author sometimes flows into a caustic satire. These advantages are distinguished by the novel by Yuri Bykov with the heritage of the classics of domestic fiction, such as, “Altist Danilov” by Vladimir Orlov, “Fatal Eggs” by Mikhail Bulgakov or “Monday begins on Saturday” by the Strugatsky brothers.
