Elena Ignatova (b. 1947) - poet, prose writer, memoirist. Born in Leningrad. Since 1975, she has been published in samizdat and publications of the Russian diaspora. Author of six poetry collections and two prose books ("Notes about St. Petersburg" and "Turning Around").
"Thread of Fate" is a book that reflects Elena Ignatova's thirty-year poetic journey from 1966 to 1996. Her poetry preserves echoes of the "beautiful era" of Khrushchev's Thaw, in the atmosphere of which her creative gift was formed and honed, while at the same time it contains something unprecedentedly original. Without turning away from the imperfections of the world, its hostile and even destructive manifestations, Elena Ignatova chooses the path of stoic experience, filled with painful feelings, flaws, and compromises. The vision of the tragic disharmony of life, the coexistence of beauty and cruelty within it, initiates the unique imagery of her poems, a style that is related to the poetry of Pushkin, Akhmatova, Mandelstam, the verbal experiments of Dylan Thomas and Sylvia Plath, and even the ancient sound of liturgical chants.
