The book is based on the results of a study on how Russian citizens perceive their own country and other countries. The research focused on the political and psychological characteristics of the "lens" through which our society views itself and others. The methodology included surveys, in-depth interviews, projective tests, cartographic methods, and semantic differentials. The results showed that territorial expansionism is not characteristic of Russians; they value recognition of Russian culture and values by other countries more. The study aimed to understand the problems that arose during the historical turning point at the end of the 1980s and early 1990s, related to the crisis of national identity. This crisis led to a negative image of their own country in the minds of citizens, essentially a kind of "national inferiority complex." Although this complex has not been completely overcome, there has been an irreversible shift in the mass consciousness, with a rise in national self-awareness influenced by the reunification of Crimea with Russia, which currently shapes public sentiment. Analyzing how Russians perceive other countries allowed for identifying the mechanisms of categorization by Russian citizens. Their perceptions of other countries include "neighbors" (post-Soviet countries), "strategic partners" (India and China), "forgotten allies" (Latin America and Africa), "significant others" (individual European countries and the less significant European Union), the image of an "enemy" (USA), and a "tourist mecca" (Turkey and Thailand).
