The reduction of natural gas pressure by throttling methods in pressure regulators and expansion in turboexpander units has been considered. The modern state of devices and technologies used for gas pressure reduction, including the utilization of energy from its excess pressure, has been demonstrated. An overview of the main gas state equations in their historical development is presented, mathematical models of the pressure reduction processes of real gas in throttle pressure regulators and turboexpanders have been developed, and a discussion and analysis of the obtained dependencies of natural gas state parameters on the operation modes of reducing devices are provided. Using the exergetic method of thermodynamic analysis, an assessment of the energy efficiency of reducing natural gas pressure in throttle pressure regulators and turboexpanders has been carried out. Examples of practical application of developed theoretical principles for determining the efficiency of the natural gas pressure reduction process are given.
