In the Black Hills mountain range in South Dakota, a huge sculpture with portraits of four U.S. presidents is carved, whom Americans consider the most outstanding in their history: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States. Suffering from serious illnesses since childhood, he managed to become a physically strong person through persistent exercises and participated in dangerous expeditions and even in war. Under Roosevelt, the country entered the international arena, declared its foreign policy interests within the Monroe Doctrine, and took the first steps towards limiting the activities of monopolies (the "big stick" doctrine) and introducing certain social guarantees for the population in domestic policy. Not everyone was satisfied with this policy: Roosevelt survived two assassination attempts, one of which seriously wounded him, but he did not change his principles. The biography of T. Roosevelt against the backdrop of the events of the late 19th and early 20th centuries is traced in the book by the well-known Russian historian-Americanist A.I. Utkin.
