A set of two books: 'Crime and Punishment' by Fyodor Dostoevsky and 'Dostoevsky in Love' by Alex Christofi.
One story gives birth to another. One author inspires others. It doesn't matter in which order you read the books. You can start with the cult novel 'Crime and Punishment', or you can start with 'Dostoevsky in Love' by Alex Christofi and look at 'Crime and Punishment' through different eyes.
In 'Dostoevsky in Love', excerpts from the works of Fyodor Mikhailovich and historical context are intertwined. As a result, a novel was created that immerses the reader in the grand perspective of Dostoevsky's world: from a Siberian labor camp to European gambling halls, from damp prison cells of the tsarist fortress to the exquisite salons of St. Petersburg. Christofi also tells the stories of three women whose lives were so closely intertwined with the life of the writer: the consumptive widow Maria, the impulsive Polina who had visions of the murder of the tsar, and the faithful stenographer Anna, who did so much to preserve his literary legacy.
Christofi has created memoirs that Dostoevsky could have written if life and literary fame had not intervened. He offers a new portrait of the artist, one that we may not have been familiar with before: shy but devoted lover, sensitive friend of the people, faithful brother and friend, and a writer capable of delving into the depths of the human soul.
