Arthur Schopenhauer is a German philosopher-irrationalist. The teachings of Schopenhauer, the main provisions of which are set out in the work “Peace as a will and representation” and other works, are often called “pessimistic philosophy”. He considered human life meaningless, and the existing world is the worst of the possible worlds.
The world on Schopenhauer is an “arena strewn with coals” through which a person has to go. The driving force of everything is the will to life, which generates desires. But even if desires are satisfied, a person is not able to experience happiness, instead of this, saturation and boredom are waiting for him, and then new desires and suffering.
Schopenhauer"s original ideas were developed in various fields of social and scientific thought. His views influenced psychoanalysis and the theory of evolution, on various directions of philosophy
Sofia and the study of the structure of the language.
The first translation of Schopenhauer’s labor into Russian was completed in 1903 by the literary critic Julius Isaevich Aichenwald, who called himself criticism-impressionist and enjoyed great respect in literary circles. Julia Aichehenwald’s translations of this arthur of Schoenhauer are available to us.
Like other books of the Great Ideas series, the book will be simply indispensable in the library of students of humanitarian specialties, as well as for those who want to get acquainted with key works and ideas of world philosophy and culture
