The book "The West. The Phenomenon of Westernism" (1993) by the classic of world sociology Alexander Alexandrovich Zinoviev (1922-2006) can rightfully be called an introduction to the scientific theory of modern Western society. The study represents the application of his developed logic and methodology of social science to the phenomenon he characterizes as Westernism (the social structure that emerged in Western countries in the second half of the 20th century). To answer the question of what the West was at the end of the 20th century and on the eve of the third millennium of the new era, the author shows a picture of life in Western society from different angles and conducts a deep analysis of the events happening there. The work provides both a "photograph" of Westernism (its detailed description, specifics, empirical data) and its "X-ray image" (revealing the internal structure, mechanisms of functioning, laws of development). This volume also includes the work "The Great Evolutionary Breakthrough" (1999), presenting the main ideas of his theory of modern society. "For the survival (of the Western super-civilization) at the level it has reached, it needs the entire planet as an environment for existence, it needs all the resources of humanity," - this quote from A.A. Zinoviev's book "The Great Evolutionary Breakthrough" was chosen by the President of Russia V.V. Putin for his keynote address at the Valdai Club meeting on October 27, 2022. The book continues the release of the complete collection of works for the 100th anniversary of A.A. Zinoviev. Editors-compilers: O.M. Zinoviev, A.S. Blinov.
