Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900) was a German philosopher who founded a philosophical movement that criticized the values of the contemporary Western culture, declaring them false and outdated. One of Nietzsche's aphoristic works, "The Wanderer and His Shadow" (1880), which is included in this book, marks the beginning of the ascent to spiritual heights that are inaccessible to people under the influence of norms and traditions. It represents the struggle against millennia-old values, the paradox of which lies in the fact that while creating the modern man, they also lead him to his downfall.
