From the end of the 4th century to the 18th century, the Ukrainian steppe was a territory of continuous habitation by representatives of various Turkic peoples, in close proximity to whom the ancestors of modern Ukrainians lived all this time. The history of these relationships is complex and diverse, but this work is primarily dedicated to their constructive aspects. The author provides a significant amount of little-known facts and attempts to give some events a new interpretation. In the appendix, the reader's attention is drawn, in particular, to a list of Ukrainian surnames of Eastern origin with etymologies and comments, which in its volume claims to be a separate study.
