For 20 years, historian and writer Rafael Guseynov has been researching the topic of a person who found themselves in captivity. During this time, he visited archives and libraries in Israel and France, and in this book, he publishes previously unknown documents from the archives of the Federal Security Service of Russia, the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF), and others. Wars bring not only death and destruction, but also isolation of people from their loved ones, mutual destruction of prisoners. But in these wars, we always emerged victorious because we defended our Motherland. The most terrible trial for the peoples of the Soviet Union was the Great Patriotic War. The monstrous machine of destruction unleashed by Hitler, its inception, destruction, and the demise of Nazism - is one of the most instructive lessons in world history. This is the subject of the author's most thorough study. A separate chapter of the book is dedicated to the Battle of Moscow, telling the story of the heroic feat of Muscovites who not only defended the capital but also made a significant contribution to the overall Victory. They say that history teaches only those who are willing to learn. In our days, there is no certainty that the leaders of the countries surrounding Russia have learned the lessons from the history of global conflicts. World War II showed us examples of the treatment and destruction of prisoners that overshadow the tortures of the Middle Ages and the wildest customs of the past. But the author also describes in the book the nature of the human spirit, its strength, and courage. Strong people endure and do not give up in any situation. The book is richly illustrated with photographs, many of which are being published for the first time.
