One of the most famous Russian historians of the 20th century, a talented publicist, and a White émigré, Sergey Petrovich Melgunov (1879-1956) dedicated his book to Admiral Alexander Vasilyevich Kolchak - one of the key figures in the history of the White movement. Trying to restore historical truth, the author seeks answers to questions: who was Admiral Kolchak in reality - a Siberian 'dictator' or a man driven by the dream of restoring Great Russia, and could he overcome the obstacles that his mission of 'recreating Russia' encountered? This is a story of the tragedy of all of Russia, of the tragedy of the entire movement that turned Kolchak into a national hero in the eyes of some, while associating his name with an unsuccessful 'enterprise' for others. The book about Kolchak, as the author himself wrote: '...only a small tribute to a man who perished for his love for the Motherland, seen from the perspective of not a political opponent, but certainly someone who thinks politically differently.' Readers are offered the concluding part of the work, in which the reasons for the defeat of Kolchak's army are analyzed, and the last days of the rebellious Admiral are recounted. The publication was dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the death of Admiral A. V. Kolchak.
