The creative legacy of the People's Artist of the RSFSR Ivan Semyonovich Efimov (1878-1959) and his wife Nina Yakovlevna Simonovich-Efimova (1877-1948) is well known to art lovers for its diversity - including painting, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, and various types of graphics. The book sheds light on another important creation of the Efimovs - the Puppet Theater - the first puppet theater in Russia with a literary repertoire, which operated from 1918 to 1944. Readers will be introduced to previously unpublished materials about the theater's activities from museum collections and the unique family archive, as well as the innovative system of rod puppets, which was first used by the Efimovs over 90 years ago and gained recognition worldwide.
For the first time, the narrative-confession of N.Ya. Simonovich-Efimova about the puppet theater is presented, including excerpts from her famous book "Notes of a Puppeteer" (1925), as well as articles by contemporaries: P.A. Florensky, V.A. Favorsky, B.V. Shergin, N.I. Sats, S.V. Obraztsov, and others. The book will be a wonderful gift for a wide circle of art enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
