In the autumn of 1941, Fedka was supposed to start first grade, but the war decided otherwise. Spies replaced the family of the orphaned boy, and he had to learn to read and write in between battles. The brave little "frontline soldier" courageously endured all the hardships of war and accomplished many adult feats.
