Hans Morgenthau was a legendary American diplomat, international law theorist, geopolitician, and mentor to Henry Kissinger, who theoretically laid the groundwork for the development of all major concepts in US foreign policy. His analysis and understanding of the complex system of relationships between countries, structures, organizations, and non-state entities became dominant texts in the field of global politics in the second half of the 20th century. It was his work that initiated the structural review of the discursive foundations of international law and its enforcement in various areas, leading international politics to its current state, with the questions he raised about war and peace shaping researchers' understanding of war, determining when a war should be considered legitimate and when it should not. In the 1960s, he developed an original concept of international relations that formed the basis of American foreign policy, later known as political realism. In fact, modern international law with its complex system of justice, checks and balances, international conventions, and the special role of the UN and the Security Council begins with this book. Without this book, the modern system of international relations cannot be understood.
