The book contains the most outstanding spiritual works of St. Filaret, Metropolitan of Moscow, one of the greatest ascetics and theologians of the Russian Church. He subjugated his whole life to the will of God and worked for the sake of the glory of God. For the great jealousy of the Lord and great works, God gave St. Filaret the gracious gifts of perspicacity and healings. He became the founder of Russian biblical science. At his insistence and under his supervision, the first Russian translation of the Holy Bible was published. As the great theologian, Metropolitan Filaret taught that only through the personal “Calvary”, through the killing of carnal and secular passions, a person can count on his salvation. The saint made a huge contribution to the creation of the theory of the Russian monarchical state.
The followers of Filaret were many ascetics of Orthodoxy and great Russian thinkers - Ignatius (Bryanchaninov), Innokenty (Smirnov), Makarii (Glukharev), Seraphim (Sobolev), N.V. Gogol, A.N. Muravyov, K.P. Pobedonostsev, L.A. Tikhomirov, I.L. Solonevich.
Part of the works of St. Filaret is published in this edition for the first time after a more than a hundred -year break
