In the book of Peter Sorokin, the history of the Neva region is considered in a wide territorial and temporary context - from the ice age to the present. One of the central episodes in it is the Battle of 1240 at the mouth of the Izhora River, inextricably linked in the minds of the people with the image of Alexander Nevsky, the patron saint of St. Petersburg. Many historical events that took place on the Neva in the Viking era, during the Crusades in the Baltic and the Northern War of 1700-1721, were little known or forgotten. And these places are remembered by Alexander Nevsky, Peter the Great, Alexander Menshikov, Catherine the Great and the last Russian emperor Nicholas II. Many monuments turned out to be forgotten. All this was reflected on the pages of the book proposed to the reader. Historical documents, many of which were previously not published, are supplemented in the book data obtained during archaeological research of the author. The publication is illustrated by photographs, engravings, drawings, plans and cards. It is designed for all those interested in the history of the Nevsky Territory and Russia
