The study is dedicated to the military events that took place in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the summer and autumn of 1658 within the framework of the Russo-Polish War of 1654-1667. The resumption of hostilities after the Vilnius armistice of 1656 was triggered by the first unsuccessful attempt of the armed forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth to regain the lost capital of Lithuania - Vilnius, three years earlier. As a result of the victory of the Russian army led by Prince Y.A. Dolgorukov in the Battle of Verki on October 11 (21), 1658, the Moscow state managed to prevent the enemy's advance and maintain control over the largest city of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Despite the importance of this victory, this battle is one of the least studied in Russian military history. A separate chapter of the book is dedicated to the struggle against the rebellion of Ukrainian Cossacks led by I. Nechay in Belarus, which significantly complicated the course of the military campaign of 1658. Until now, the military events under consideration have not been the subject of special research in domestic historiography. The majority of archival materials used in the study have never been published before. Most documents regarding the composition, strength, and losses of the Russian army in battles and campaigns of the Lithuanian campaign of 1658 are introduced into scholarly circulation for the first time.
