The book by an American legal scholar is dedicated to the Socratic dialogue - one of the effective and proven tools for constructing correct reasoning - left to us by ancient philosophy. In the author's interpretation, Socrates' method is contrasted with thoughtless and superficial making of categorical judgments, which is stimulated by modern internet communication. "If I had to express the antithesis of Socrates' method in one word, I would use the word 'Twitter'," writes Ward Farnsworth. At the center of his criticism is the inability of modern people around the world to think critically and independently, questioning the sanctified by tradition, habit-supported, or imposed by authority evaluations and opinions. It is precisely the inability to think in a Socratic manner that is depicted in the book as the underlying cause of "all the turmoil of ignorance and hypocrisy that characterizes today's political discourse."
