"The Society of the Spectacle" is a metaphor for a world where direct contact with reality has been lost: "Everything that was once experienced directly is now mediated through representation." The work is dedicated to the analysis and critique of both the Western capitalist system - the "society of the dispersed spectacle," and the Soviet authoritarian system - the "society of the concentrated spectacle." In the "Comments," the society of the integrated spectacle is presented, which includes both totalitarian control and the dictatorship of the society of consumption.
