Leonid Vladimirovich Sherwood (1871-1954) was an outstanding Russian sculptor of Anglo-German descent, a prominent representative of the Impressionist direction in sculpture, who worked at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He was the author of the monument to Admiral S. O. Makarov in Kronstadt, the sculpture 'Sentry', which became a symbol of the Russian army, monuments to I. I. Mechnikov, D. I. Mendeleev, writer G. I. Uspensky, and many others. He worked as a restorer at the Hermitage, saving Russia's greatest cultural heritage for future generations. He was an extraordinary, complex, and contradictory person who managed to find his path - the path of a sculptor. A path full of tragedies, losses, difficulties, and hardships, but at the same time - discoveries and great achievements.
