The presented book is the first part of a duology dedicated to the events of the Cold War era, primarily related to the use of aviation in this confrontation. Based on available sources, it tells about the active actions of the US aviation and their allies against the Soviet Union during that challenging period. In response, the servicemen of the Soviet Air Force and Air Defense, Border Aviation were ready to stop the enemy at any cost, including their own lives. Additionally, it reveals details of incidents between allies of the anti-Hitler coalition, which led to the use of weapons against each other in the early 1940s, and the complex situation in the second half of the 1940s and 1950s on almost all borders of the USSR due to numerous reconnaissance and sabotage violations of the border almost along the entire perimeter of our country. The highest number of incidents on the border occurred in the 1950s when, in order to significantly increase intelligence activities against the USSR, the adversaries began to develop and use specialized equipment: reconnaissance aircraft from 'Shooting Star' to U-2, balloon jumpers, automatic drifting aerostats, and much more. There was an active dropping of parachutists-saboteurs onto our territory. All this led to a balancing act on the brink of a hot war, naturally not without casualties on both sides. The narrative is divided into chapters by decades in chronological order and covers the period from the 1940s to the late 1950s. Each chapter is preceded by a brief description of the socio-political situation and the most important events in the USSR and the world. The second part of the duology will be dedicated to the period from 1961 to 1991. The book contains over 430 photo illustrations, many of which are unique and published for the first time. It is intended for a wide range of readers.
