The amazing discoveries in the field of nonlinear science in recent decades have attracted a lot of attention. This interest is somewhat satisfied by numerous publications of monographs, textbooks, popular science books - only in the series "Synergetics: from the past to the future" by the URSS publishing house, more than 60 books have been released. Only one question remains practically unexplored - the question of the emergence of nonlinear science, the development of its ideas, the sometimes tragic fates of its creators. Meanwhile, the process of the formation of nonlinear science, the dynamics of its development, the displacement of one ideas by others, the lives of its creators - in other words, the history of nonlinear science is especially captivating and intriguing.
This book attempts to compile a calendar of important events related to the development of nonlinear science against the background of the biographies of its creators, starting from the times when the term 'nonlinear science' did not yet exist. The mathematical apparatus of the book is simple: mainly dimensional analysis is used.
The book is intended for students and graduate students studying the history of natural sciences. It can also be useful for teachers, high school students, university professors, and anyone interested in the history of science.
