On an island in the midst of the northern seas stands a castle where snow maidens and apprentices are taught. Just a little more, and eleven-year-old snow maiden Alyona Salinder will graduate from school. She really needs to prove herself in the Task! But here's the trouble: on her very first flight, Alyona's bag with magical toys, which she was supposed to give to children for New Year's, is stolen. Due to a series of failures and strange circumstances, Alyona thinks that the White Seagull is hunting her. This sorceress destroyed one of the school's students many years ago and disappeared without a trace. Along with her, the Crystal of the North, which holds the magic of winter, disappeared.
Alyona feels a connection with the elusive Guardian of the Crystal. Perhaps she knows why Alyona has a nightmare almost every night? In this terrifying dream, the snow maiden repeatedly turns into ice.
Searching for gifts with her faithful polar fox, Alyona does not suspect: she herself is the main key to the mystery of the missing Guardian.
