Andrey Ostalsky (b. 1953) is a journalist, writer, and former editor-in-chief of the Russian Service of the BBC (2000–2009). He has collaborated with publications such as Izvestia and The Financial Times, and worked as a correspondent in Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon. Ostalsky was born and raised in Moscow, but has been living in London for over 25 years. He is the author of numerous popular science and fiction books on travel, history, and politics. He is a laureate of the 'Enlightener' award. This book is dedicated to John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946), one of the most significant economists of the 20th century. It is often said that Keynes proposed a great historical compromise - a third way between capitalism and socialism. In reality, he believed that the purpose of his life was to save capitalism, protect freedom, the market, and democracy. Keynes' contemporaries noted his extraordinary thinking and his ahead-of-his-time 'general theory', which remains at the center of attention not only for economists but for anyone interested in the current global situation.
