The novel is dedicated to the fate and heroism of the commissar of the legendary underground organization "Young Guard," which operated in the occupied Krasnodon by the Hitlerites from September 1942 to January 1943. Slandered by enemy collaborators after his heroic death, Viktor was only rehabilitated in 1959, posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War I degree in 1960, and in 2022 he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. The novel is based on extensive documentary and memoir material.
