The book is a reprint of the work by the famous military theorist A.A. Svechin "The Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 based on documentary data from the work of the Military-Historical Commission and other sources." Published in 1910, it became one of the first serious analytical works on the recently concluded war with Japan, in which the author himself participated. The chapters on the defense of Port Arthur were also written by its participant - Yu.D. Romanovsky. The combination of strict scientific analysis and personal impressions allows the authors to present an accurate picture of the events that took place and to uncover the reasons for the failures of the Russian army in this war.
