The monograph is the first comprehensive study on the political publicists of the Katkovsky circle. Based on materials of domestic archives and periodic prints of the end of the 19th century, the author analyzes the views and activities of Katkova himself, his associates, like-minded people and competitors: S. S. Tatischev, M. F. De-Pule, P. P. Zitovich, V. I . Schulgin, P. A. Kulakovsky and others. All of them to one degree or another shared the Katkovskaya ideology - bureaucratic nationalism. "Katkovtsy" beat not only with liberals and nihilists. Their software plants entered into a contradiction and with "imperial" conservatism, and with ethno-confessional nationalism of late Slavophiles, and with the views of the nationalists of the 20th century
