The hippies who were baptized in the Pacific Ocean during the summer sunset of 1970 did not know that they were participating in a spiritual awakening. They didn't even know what a spiritual awakening was. They were not familiar with terms from the Christian dictionary such as 'rebirth', 'salvation', or 'sanctification'. But thanks to the Beatles, Jim Morrison, and other icons of the counterculture of that time, hippies knew the word 'revolution'. They were part of a youth culture that rebelled against what they called the 'establishment', the dominant values of the mainstream - conformity and rat races for material success and achievements. They were much more interested in achieving higher levels of consciousness through drugs, rhythmic music, and the pleasures of sexual adventures unburdened by the bonds of marriage. They were destined for a planet, flowers, and a society where everyone got along well with each other. This youth revolution was in full swing when a deeper, more powerful, and radical wave arose. It was called the Jesus Revolution or the Jesus Movement. It grew among the youth - the baby boomer generation - in the United States from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. It was the largest and most prominent movement of the Holy Spirit in the United States since the famous revivals of the nineteenth century. National magazines wrote colorful essays about this mass spiritual phenomenon, just as newspapers like 'The New York Times' did.
This book was made into a film of the same name, which was released in theaters in February of this year, ranking third at the box office in America and grossing over $50 million in the first few months...
