The main task of the book is to present the German art of 1945-1965 from the point of view of the development of artistic theory and institutional practices. On the example of the German art scene, it is told about the phenomenon of the revival of modernism - restoration of avant -garde directions and attitudes after a period of cultural reaction, which in Germany was associated with the Nazi dictatorship.
The historical background of the development of art after the Second World War and the influence of political and ideological factors on the criteria for evaluating works of art is considered in the work. The author for the first time stated the problem of cultural continuity and integrity in the conditions of divided Germany, which ended up at the very tip of the Cold War. The focus is those factors that contributed to the return of the country to the channel of the pan -European cultural tradition and affirmed rehabilitated modernism as one of the symbols of Western civilization.
The publication is addressed to both specialists and a wide circle of readers interested in the history and art of the second half of the 20th century
